Eating disorder therapy for children & teens in Columbus and Central Ohio

We understand that early intervention and family involvement are key to helping children and teens recover from eating disorders. Our Columbus team, led by Dr. Sarah Altman, PhD, provides compassionate, evidence-based treatment tailored to the needs of young people and their families throughout Central Ohio.

We proudly serve Columbus and nearby communities including Worthington, Dublin, Westerville, Upper Arlington, New Albany, Hilliard, Clintonville, Grove City, and Gahanna.

Our Approach

Family-centered, evidence-based treatment

We help children and teens restore health and resilience using treatment models designed for long-term success. Our care emphasizes collaboration, structure, and compassion through:

  • Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for eating disorders in children and adolescents
  • CBT-E (Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for teens
  • Parental support and education to strengthen recovery at home
  • Collaboration with pediatricians and dietitians for integrated medical and nutritional care

Treatment is tailored to each person’s unique needs—whether your goals include restoring healthy eating patterns, reducing distress around food and body image, or addressing co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, depression, or trauma.

Support for students across local school districts

Our clinicians understand the school-related challenges that can affect recovery — from academic stress to social dynamics — and work with families to provide effective, flexible support. We proudly serve families throughout Columbus and Central Ohio, including those in:

GETTING STARTED: SCREENING & INITIAL ASSESSMENT

The first step in becoming a patient at EBHA is completing our brief screening questionnaire and scheduling an Initial Assessment & Consultation. Please answer the screening questions as thoughtfully and accurately as possible—your responses help us:

  • Determine the best clinical fit for your child or teen
  • Identify any medical or safety concerns that may require a higher level of care or urgent medical attention
  • Match your family with the clinician whose expertise and style best fit your child’s needs

Your first session is a consultation and diagnostic assessment (not a guarantee of ongoing treatment).

  • For eating/body image concerns: ~90–120 minutes
  • For non-eating concerns: ~60–90 minutes
  • A parent or caregiver must participate in this session.

After the consultation, we’ll collaborate on a personalized plan — which may include ongoing therapy at EBHA, coordination with other providers, or a referral to a higher level of care if indicated.

Complete the screening form below to begin. We’ll review it promptly and follow up with next steps.
