Training Workshop for Professionals

This workshop is targeted for all members of the multidisciplinary treatment team for eating disorders, including but not limited to medical providers, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and dieticians.

Multidisciplinary Focus

This training will provide a groundwork of knowledge for any professional who is interested in understanding the complexity of eating disorder diagnosis, assessment, medical, psychological and nutrition aspects of appropriate referral and treatment in primary care, specialty care, and outpatient mental health care. The American Psychiatric Association (APA) Practice Guidelines for eating disorders includes a multidisciplinary team of which the members of the team must understand the roles of each of the team members in order to provide effective, collaborative treatment.

We will review the role of each team member, and describe the treatment approaches used by each team member. The morning sessions will focus on eating disorder risk factors, diagnosis and assessment. The afternoon sessions will focus on the psychosocial, nutritive, medical and psychiatric treatments, as well as practical tips for providers on how to approach discussion of weight and other concerns that can be sensitive to patients.

Our Panel of Experts

We are proud to have local Central Ohio leaders and esteemed professionals who have extensive training and expertise in eating disorders in their relative fields.

Dr. Altman is a Licensed Psychologist and founder and clinical director of Eating and Behavioral Health Associates, a group practice dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders. She has previously served as the manager of a DBT Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Program in Eating Disorders, and is Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at OSU. She has dedicated her career to the eating disorder field, and has published several peer-reviewed articles on eating disorders and comorbidities.

Dr. Stout is board-certified in psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at OSU, and is Medical Director of the Nationwide Children’s Eating Disorder Program. Dr. Stout has extensive experience and training in psychiatric care of eating disorders, and has authored several publications on the psychopharmocology and treatment of eating disorders.

Dr. Banas is board-certified family medicine with a specialization in adolescent medicine and is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at OSU Outpatient Care Dublin. Dr. Banas has extensive training in the medical care of eating disorders.

Dr. Wood-Barcalow is a Licensed Psychologist and owner of Wood-Barcalow Psychological Services and has extensive experience in various levels of care for eating disorders treatment at Laureate, The Center for Balanced Living, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She has co-authored the Body Appreciation Scale, as well as has co-wrote The Positive Body Image Workbook: A Clinical and Self-Improvement Guide.

Dr. Fisher is a Licensed Psychologist with a specialization in Health Psychology at Eating and Behavioral Health Associates and works with patients who experience chronic health conditions within the context of an eating disorder, including diabetes, POTS, and heart disease. She also acts as the Clinical Training Coordinator at EBHA, and supervises doctoral psychology trainees and coordinates in-house training and education of postdocs, psychology trainees, LSW/LPCS and resident education.

Chelsea Tobias is an Independently Licensed Social Worker and Certified Intuitive Counselor Eating and Behavioral Health Associates. Chelsea specializes in child and adolescent treatment of eating disorders and trauma, and has experience working in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for eating disorders. She also acts as the Clinical Education Coordinator at EBHA where she supervises trainees and consults with schools and other organizations on eating disorder prevention and treatment.

Erica Drewry is a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian Supervisor, Registered/Licensed Dietitian, and founder of Aligned Nutrition, LLC. She provides professional supervision to other dietitians and professionals seeking experience in the eating disorder field, and hosts The Aligned Nutrition Podcast where she focuses on topics related to eating disorders and body image.

Jamie Keever is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, Registered/Licensed Dietitian, and the founder of EMPOWERD Nutrition Counseling, LLC. Jamie has nearly 10 years of experience working within various levels of care in eating disorder treatment, and served as the Lead Clinical Dietitian within Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Eating Disorders Program.
